Frequently Asked Questions
Upward Soccer at Fellowship Baptist Church
What is Upward?
Upward Sports is a national program that provides churches with the opportunity to provide an exceptional sports experience for children. At Fellowship we are currently offering the Upward Soccer program.
How do I register?
Go to the Registration page, and get in the game!
What does Upward look like?
Upward Soccer is a nine-week season with an awards celebration to end the season. Children will attend one practice during the week in the evenings for a total of nine practices. Each child will also play in eight games that are held Saturday mornings. In addition to learning the basics of soccer, children will hear of truths from the Bible and God’s plan for our salvation.
When is this?
Evaluations are July 24, 26, or 28; this helps us better place your child on a team. Practices for Upward begin the week of August 27. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule and have your child practicing on a night that does not interfere with other activities. Games begin Saturday September 8; playing times will vary depending on the number of teams, but will take place in the morning.
Is there a cost?
Yes, if you register by July 23 the cost is $75. After that date $85. You can also Like Fellowship Olathe Soccer on Facebook to get updates and hear about special discounts! Please note we do not make a profit. The cost of participation pays for your child’s uniform, coaches manuals, and other materials needed to make the season successful (think soccer balls, nets, paint for lines). All coaches, referees, and other workers are volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please send us an email at [email protected].
What is the awards celebration? When is it?
The awards celebration is a way we culminate the season to celebrate the success and fun of the season. All children will receive a gift, be honored for their participation, hard work, and dedication during the season, and there will be an entertainer. Last year KC Wolf visited us! This year’s celebration is Sunday, October 28.
Who can participate?
Any child going into kindergarten (or turning 5 soon)-grade 6.
What does game day look like?
Game days are every Saturday morning behind the church. Games are 4-on-4 with no goalie and last approximately one hour. There is a half time break with a devotional. Each child will play approximately the same amount of time over the course of the season. We also have a concession stand, music, and an announcer to introduce your child before the game!
Is this competitive?
The goal of Upward is for every child to have a positive experience with sports. Therefore everyone plays the same amount of time, teams are kept as small as can be accommodated, we try our best to make each team evenly talented, and every child is rewarded at the end of the game for displaying a specific attitude. Of course it is competitive because everyone wants to win, but we don’t focus on wins and losses because no matter the outcome everyone has fun.
